Stairs. The three steps leading up to the nō stage that are placed at center front stage. Today these function primarily as a marker of center stage for the actors. A leftover from when nō was performed on shrine buildings (haiden), the stairs could also be used after a performance by elite members of the audience when presenting costumes or other gifts to the actors.
