Chorus seats. This extension of the main nō stage to the right (from the audience’s perspective) is an Edo-period addition to the nō stage architecture. It provides a space where the chorus can view the action yet sit separated from it, behind the waki and waki-tsure. Previously the chorus sat behind the instrumentalists in the ato za.
