A happi is an ōsode outer garment with double-width sleeves and a strip at the hem connecting the front and back panels. Lined awase happi are worn by characters of demons, menacing animals, lesser gods and victorious warriors. Unlined hitoe happi woven in a gossamer gauze are worn by warrior-courtiers with the right sleeve slipped off to facilitate sword manipulation.
