Hangiri

Broad pleated trousers with woven patterning worn by strong male characters.

Hangiri are broad pleated trousers (hakama) with woven patterning. Shaped similarly to the ōkuchi with wide panels in the back, hangiri differ from ōkuchi in the panels being stiffened by pacing a mat between its face fabric and lining. Strong male characters including powerful deities, warriors, bandits, goblins, and vengeful ghosts wear hangiri combined generally with a happi outer garment.
