Drummer’s calls. The vocalized calls that prelude the drum strokes and identify the beats within the metric unit. The iteration of the calls varies for congruent (hyōshi ai)and non-congruent (hyōshi awazu) passages, and the quality of the voicing is adjusted to the atmosphere of the scene.
