Hashigakari

Bridgeway. A covered passageway between the mirror room and the main nō stage down which the performers enter and exit.

Bridgeway. A covered passageway between the mirror room and the main nō stage down which the performers enter and exit. The hashigakai leads off at an angle from the upstage right corner. Although the length varies on different stages, all bridgeways are divided into three sections by two sets of poles holding up the roof. Each section of the hashigakari is designated as the first, second, or third pine, a nomenclature taken from the pines that line the area in front to the hashigakari.
